Between the Atlantic Ocean and Narrow Bay (Smith Point, Fire Island, Long Island, NY) is the barrier beach which contains a dune road open to vehicles to get to secluded areas rarely traveled by beachgoers. The road extends 5 miles (10 if you add the return trip lane 50 yards to the north) to the east and a four wheeled vehicle, permit and a shovel are required.
